WHEEL FALLS OFF AT AUTOCROSS - EPIC FAIL ON OUR GTI TRACK CAR

After about 100 miles of track time on Road Atlanta the gang decided to have a go at the Autocross that was going on. All four of us had a go. On Scott's turn the front left wheel fell off. From what we can guess the hub ring wasn't centered properly after rotating.

After about 100 miles of track time on Road Atlanta the gang decided to have a go at the Autocross that was going on. All four of us had a go. On Scott's turn the front left wheel fell off. From what we can guess the hub ring wasn't centered properly after rotating. Therefore the lug bolts (VWs have bolts not studs) were torqued against the ring and not fully seated into the hub. As we had two people check the torque on the wheels. Weirdly it made it about a mile to the autocross, and 3.5 runs with zero wobble before failure. It took out our left front fender. Thankfully no-one besides our pit crew helpers pride was hurt and a replacement fender is a whopping $37. We were just happy this didnt happen on track where someone could have been hurt. Lessons learned! CHECK YOUR NUTS YO!
